Gwent Probation Area is continuously striving to improve its performance, and you can obtain information in these pages about our current and recent strengths and areas for improvement.

We look at our performance against a range of nationally and locally set targets.

The National Probation Directorate is committed to the use of the EFQM or European Excellence Model and in common with the Directorate and the other 41 Areas Gwent will be undergoing EEM self-assessment each year from 2001 to 2005.

Gwent Probation Area also gained the Charter Mark award in 2001 and has held Investors In People status since 1998.

All Probation Areas are subject to independent inspection from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Probation (HMIP). Gwent's most recent inspection was completed in late 2001, and the Performance Inspection Report was published in June 2003.

Finally, our Research unit strives to produce valuable reports that can be used to identify areas for improvement on a local level.
