Gwent Probation Board

Gwent Probation Board oversees the work of Gwent Area and is answerable to the Home Secretary on performance matters.

Board members are recruited from the local communities and come from a range of backgrounds. The Board meets regularly through the year and members receive a small payment for their services.

The Board also promotes partnership working with other local agencies in the drive to reduce crime. It is also the employer of over 250 staff.

The Chair of the Board is Councillor Jim McIlwee.

The Chief Officer, Jane Coates, is also a member of the Board. Jane has been Chief Officer for three years. She is also a qualified Probation Officer of over thirty years standing.

  Gwent Probation Board members:
  Councillor Jim Mcllwee was appointed as acting Chair of the Gwent Probation Board by the Home Secretary in April 2004.
  Jane Coates was appointed as Chief Officer to the Gwent Probation Area with effect from June 2001 having previously undertaken the post in an acting up capacity. As Chief Officer Jane is a member of the Gwent Probation Board.
  Brian Barr was appointed to the Gwent Probation Board in April 2001. He is Chair of the IT & Communications Committee and is a member of the Contracts and Partnership Forum Committees.
  Ron Doxey was appointed to the Gwent Probation Board in April 2001. He is Chair of the Contracts and Joint Health and Safety Committees and is a member of the Audit Committee.
  John Harrhy, JP was appointed to the Gwent Probation Committee Board in September 2003. He is Chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Contracts, Human Resources & Diversity Committees.
  Joyce Morgan was appointed to the Gwent Probation Board in April 2001. She is Chair of the Partnership Forum Committee and is a member of the Audit and Contracts Committees.
  Judge David Morris is the Lord Chancellor's nominee to the Gwent Probation Board.
  Stuart Smith was appointed to the Gwent Probation Board in May 2004 . He is a member of the Human Resources & Diversity Committee.
  Howard Williams was appointed to the Gwent Probation Board in April 2001. He is a member of the Audit, Human Resources & Diversity, IT & Communications, Partnership Forum and JNCC Committees.
  Peter Walters was appointed to the Gwent Probation Board in April 2001. He is a member of the Human Resources & Diversity and IT & Communications Committees.
  Neil Evans JP was appointed to the Gwent Probation Board in March 2006.
Jennifer Lewis JP was appointed to the Gwent Probation Board in March 2006.
Martin Love JP was appointed to the Gwent Probation Board in March 2006.
